How do I know if I have aluminum?
Aluminum is silver-gray, very light for its size, non-magnetic, and doesn't rust (though it can oxidize with a white powdery coating). If a magnet won't stick to your silver-colored metal and it feels surprisingly light, it's likely aluminum. Stainless steel is also non-magnetic and silver, but it's significantly heavier and more rigid than aluminum of the same size.
Should I remove screws and bolts before selling aluminum?
It depends on volume. Steel bolts and screws mixed into aluminum reduce your per-pound rate because the load gets classified as "dirty aluminum." On a larger quantity — say 100+ pounds — taking 30 minutes to remove steel fasteners can add meaningful money to your payout. On smaller loads, it's usually not worth the time. Ask us and we'll tell you honestly whether sorting your specific load makes financial sense.
Do you buy aluminum screen enclosure frames?
Yes. Pool cage and screen enclosure aluminum is a common Florida-specific scrap source. The thin-wall extrusion pays as aluminum, and we can pick up full truckloads from contractors demolishing or replacing enclosures. Call ahead so we can coordinate the right truck for the volume.
Is painted aluminum worth less?
Slightly. Painted aluminum is priced as "painted extrusion" rather than clean extrusion — you'll get a few cents per pound less. But it's still worth significantly more than nothing, and it's still aluminum. Bring it in; we'll quote the load fairly.
