Sell Brass
Fittings
& Valves.

Plumbing and irrigation work throws off brass constantly - valves, fittings, hose bibs and hardware. It is heavier than it looks and worth considerably more than the steel bin it usually ends up in.

What Counts As
Brass Fittings & Valves

Knowing which grade you actually have is the difference between getting paid well and getting paid the mixed rate.

Gate & Ball Valves
High value
Solid brass valves from plumbing and irrigation. Heavy, and often red brass, which pays more than yellow.
Plumbers and irrigation contractors.
Pipe Fittings
Common
Elbows, tees, couplings, unions and adapters. Small individually but they add up quickly by the bucket.
Every plumbing job produces them.
Hose Bibs & Spigots
Good
Exterior taps and spigots, usually solid brass with occasional steel handles attached.
Residential renovation work.
Fittings With Steel
Sort these out
Brass with steel nipples, screws or backing attached is priced down as dirty brass. Removing the steel moves it up a grade.
A few minutes with a wrench pays.

Brass Fittings & Valves FAQ

What is the difference between yellow brass and red brass?
Red brass has a higher copper content, which makes it both redder in colour and more valuable. Yellow brass is the common alloy used in most fittings and fixtures. We sort them for you and price each on its own merit rather than paying one blended rate for the lot.
Should I remove steel from brass fittings before selling?
If it is easy, yes. Brass with steel attached is graded as dirty brass and paid accordingly. Pulling steel nipples and screws out moves the load up a grade, and on a full bucket that is usually worth the few minutes it takes.
Do you buy brass from plumbers and irrigation contractors?
Yes, regularly. We can set up scheduled pickup so fittings do not pile up between jobs.
How can I tell brass from bronze?
Both are copper alloys and both are valuable. Brass tends to be more yellow, bronze more reddish-brown. For scrap purposes you do not need to separate them yourself - we sort and grade them when we weigh, and we will tell you what you had.
